Versions

What Are Versions?

  • Versions are a new feature Fuga introduced InDesign to make it easier to manage different versions of the same document.

Objects Across Versions

Using Fuga Versions, the same object can appear on multiple versions, no matter where those versions are located. In the past, when using layers for creating different versions, the same object could only show up on multiple versions if that object was on one of the lower versions. If you wanted the same object on layer 1 and layer 6 (version 1 and version 6), you would need to duplicate that object so it did not appear on the rest of the layers. When you needed to edit that object, you had to worry about editing both of them. With versions in Fuga, the objects are actually the same, so editing it on one version changes it on all the versions it’s on.

Exceptions

While objects appear on multiple versions, you can easily take an object and create an exception of it on a single version. Essentially, this is un-linking the object from the other objects. This way you can edit the object on one version without having it affect the objects on other versions.

Nesting

Versions are nested, meaning that there are versions within versions. The BASE Version is the version that all other versions are on top of. Each additional version can have it’s on child versions.
